A Sign
“O Lord, God of my master Abraham, grant me success today, and show your steadfast love to my master Abraham!” (Genesis 24:12)
Perhaps many young people do not marry because they are always waiting for someone better. They are unable to decide to whom they should commit their lives.
Before getting married, many people may ask God for a sign. Abraham’s servant did the same. He prayed and waited in faith for God to reveal His will. At that time, it was customary for the young women of the town to come out to the well in the evening to draw water. It was there that the servant met Rebekah. She was the young woman who willingly gave water to the thirsty traveller and even to his animals.
Although it was important that the bride chosen for Isaac should be beautiful and unmarried, it was equally important that she should also have a beautiful soul—someone capable of becoming a good and faithful companion.
My Christian brother or sister! Perhaps you also feel uncertain about something and do not know how to decide—whether it concerns choosing a spouse, a school, a workplace, a place to settle down, or another question that is especially troubling you this week. Ask the Lord for guidance! Through His holy Word, God brings light into our lives, shows us the right path, and leads us. Amen.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for guiding my life along the path of faith. Whenever I become uncertain, please take my hand and help me make the right decision. Amen.
